In response to President Dan Cathy’s statement against same-sex marriage and reaffirming the company’s stance on the traditional family unit, Mike Huckabee on his Facebook page has called for Wednesday, August 1 for be “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.”

According to Huffington Post, Huckabee, on his Facebook page said, “The goal is simple: Let's affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick-fil-A on Wednesday, August 1.”

On Monday, LGBT Weekly reported that Philadelphia City Councilman James Kenney sent a letter to the company’s president telling him that Chick-fil-A is not welcome in the City of Brotherly Love.

Kenney also vowed in the letter to introduce a resolution at the next City Council meeting that will condemn the company.

There is too much hate in this country. Mr. Cathy is contributing to it by funding Hate Groups Against Gays. Tell me something, is hate a part of Christianity? These groups are behind the physical and, mental abuse that young gay teenagers have to endure. They inspire bullying that drives young Gays to suicide. There are hundreds of Gay men & women today that are being physically beaten to death or near death because some heterosexual feels they are sinners and, they are entitled to hurt Gays. Those hate groups confirm that mentality.

I'm just saying, maybe "Crook McGrath" might make more sense. It would be funnier at least.

Bob Penland, well said: It's about equality under the law. Dan Cathy isn't fighting a religious fight - his religion already forbids gay marriage. He is fighting to ensure that, in a purely legal context, homosexuals are unable to attain the same rights as heterosexuals. He's using his religion to shield his bigotry and deny people the same legal protections under the law. I support speaking up with kissing -- that is hardly hateful. It is just a gentle way to be heard in the face of those who publicly call for denying others their rights. Since Americans speak with their pocketbooks, Chik-fil-A is a great place to do it. I, for one, won't be eating there again.

I will act to support everyone's right to speak out and say what he or she stands for regardless of whether I agree with it and it is for that reason that I support Chick Fil A. I find it alarming that individuals in our country want to silence other individuals and further alarming that public officials would step in to attempt to silence people's personal views and prohibit them from expanding legal enterprise based on their personal views or how they donate their money. Chick Fil A is an EOE and provides all with the same high level of service regardless of one's personal views. It would be just as wrong as someone trying to run someone's real estate business out of town because that business was in favor of gay marriage and donated money to pro gay causes.

And I respect peaceful dissent to each of these sides and would support both sides to the death so they will always have the right to speak their mind. Maybe we should consider banning religion all together because so often it is at the root of these things, right? If there were no Christians or Muslims or Jews would the world be a better place? Doesn't this smell like that? Aren't people really saying that Chick Fil A's Christian principles aren't acceptable and not welcomed? Rahm Emmanuel said Chick Fil A values are not Chicago's values...really? Are there NO Christians in Chicago? Or is he saying that the Christians in Chicago are not welcomed there? Is is only the Christians who agree with Emmanuel who are welcomed in Chicago. This is a slippery slope and in the long run promotes more bigotry . If we speak tolerance, then let's act tolerance....even when it offends us

You're just not all there man .... Can you argue with the FACT that YOUR Bible was written by MAN and in regards to your MAN MADE GOD ... it would be good of you as an AMERICAN to not mix YOUR church with MY STATE .. also marriage was NOT started by religion .. that's the silliest thing I've ever heard .. I guess you actually believe this nation was formed by Christians ... good brain wash
Gary Patton August 02, 2012 at 03:40 PM
As a Prisedent of my own company .. here's something to think about .. YOU DO NOT VOICE YOUR OPINIONS THAT WILL DEVIDE YOUR CLIENTS. just don't do it .. the rich white man of that chicken church should not have said that .. period .. period period period .. but he did and now all of the bible thumping hillbillies are all excited ... Hey, more of you hillbillies can show your support at the old cjicken shack if you get off your sisters

Really? What does going to Chick-fil-a on Friday to make out have to do with anything? I have a live and let live attitude but I really can't say I am thrilled to go to any restaurant on any day and see couples (straight or gay) making out. How does that further any "cause?" It just annoys me that people would purposely do that regardless of their sexuality. I would ask them to please leave my place of business because it is inappropriate! Why antagonize people if you are trying to get their support? This goes way beyond freedom of speech -- seems like they are trying to put a large employer out of business for their personal agenda. Sad, because whether you eat at Chick-fil-a or not (and I generally don't being a vegan) they do employ a large number of people in an economy where everyone needs their job.

Gary Patton August 02, 2012 at 03:47 PM
yes .. but probably not when you are selling your product to everyone .. I bet you'd have an issue with the good chicken dr. if he said old white Christians should not get married .. oh that would just be GODawful .. gays are not wanting anything from YOU PEOPLE .. but you wish to keep this from them .. now who's on the wrong side .. HOMAPHOBE

Gary Patton August 02, 2012 at 03:49 PM
A++ You could also through in there that two men can't get married, but if one has a sex change .. leaglly they can then get married .. it's just down to put one on or take on off
Gary Patton August 02, 2012 at 03:50 PM
that would be the hillibilly bible thumpers
Gary Patton August 02, 2012 at 03:56 PM
Just know that 1 lawsuit can make this debate over same-sex-marriage a thing of the past. Look stay away from the bible, find a state that doesn't allow same sex marriage and sue.. take it all the way to high courts .. It's a civil liberties slam dunk .. really .. just try and watch

Conservative values mean nothing in the world today. They are for extremely ignorant and hateful people who just want something to bitch about. Going to these stores to kiss someone of the same sex is showing that we are here and we aren't going anywhere. It doesn't matter how much money you waste on supporting anti-gay movements. You are wasting your money completely. Plus chik-Fil-a's food is nasty as shit anyways, everyone who went yesterday and waited for fake chicken filled with unnatural chemicals was just proving how ignorant they really are. Do you even know what you are eating? No, you don't.
Goofy August 02, 2012 at 05:44 PM
Fine, then eliminate the word "married" from the tax laws and the laws concerning health care so that people in a "civil union" have the same rights and responsibilities of someone "married"

Believing in traditional marriage is not the same as hating gays. I really do have a live and let live approach to life so I don't shove my preferences or beliefs in anyone else's face and expect the same courtesy and kindness from them. I don't "make out" in front of other people out of consideration for their feelings, regardless of their sexuality. We should ALL be considerate of others!
Daniel Donaldson August 03, 2012 at 02:50 AM
Richard, you are entirely incorrect. The Family Research Council lobbied to change the language of the bill, "to remove sweeping and inaccurate assertions that homosexual conduct is internationally recognized as a fundamental human right." The author of that bill was trying to twist the facts to strengthen his position, just as you are now. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20006856-503544.html

There's paperwork to prove relationship, though. Power of attorney, Wills, that kind of thing. Additionally, "75 percent of the hospitals have policies to protect their patients from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation." http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/12/how-hospitals-treat-same-sex-couples/

I do not believe "making out" as a protest is in good taste. Why use what should be part of "love" as an act of protest. -- Why not just eat somewhere else if you don't want "your money" going to causes that Dan Cathy supports? He's not getting taxpayer funds. He using his own money. He is not obligated to spend his money in a way that you (pl) approve. If he wants to spend zilllions saving icebergs, that's his right. Don't agree; go eat at McDonald's. I also do not think it is appropriate for any couple; hetero or homosexual, to "make out" in public venues. It's just in poor taste, IMO.
