Cousin faces a host of charges in relation to the late August incident that occurred while he was the lone officer on patrol in Chalfont Borough. The charges include: false alarm to an agency of public safety, two counts of possessing an instrument of crime with intent, false reports where the offense did not occur, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.

At a press conference last week announcing Cousin's arrest, Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler said the several misdemeanors could “park [Cousin] in the state penitentiary for a long time.”

The 30-year-old, who is married with 4 young children, claimed to be attacked and shot in his bullet-proof vest shortly after 3 a.m. on Monday, August 27 in the parking lot of the Lenape Valley Swim Club on Westview Avenue.

The report of a shot officer sparked a , including an air unit from the state police, SWAT officers and K9 teams from several departments.

Heckler and Chalfont Police Chief Frank Campbell told reporters last week that police started noticing issues with the officer’s story within moments of arriving at the scene. A ballistics examination added evidence to support the authorities doubts, they said.

Cousin was taken into police custody on Aug. 28, arraigned and sent to the Bucks County jail.

By the next day, the officer had posted 10 percent of his $150,000 bail and had agreed to enter an inpatient treatment facility and notify the court of his progress, CBS Philly reported.

The Borough of Chalfont placed Cousin on administrative leave after his arrest, pending an employment investigation.

Cousin is represented by Bensalem-based attorney Michael H. Applebaum, court records show.

The October 11 preliminary hearing is set to be held at the Richboro District Court at 1:30 p.m.
